Short answer: Stand by Me Doraemon (2014) earned 8.38 billion yen in Japan, according to a Dentsu report, and The Numbers lists $147 million in international box office, with China at $77.2 million. The 2020 sequel, Stand by Me Doraemon 2, shows $65.2 million worldwide on Box Office Mojo. Sources disagree on some totals, so check the date and currency of each figure.
How much did the first film earn?
A Dentsu article about the film's China release gives the Japanese box office for the 2014 film as 8.38 billion yen (converted by the article to $97.5 million). That is the only Japan figure we saw directly. The Numbers does not show a Japan row for this film.
The Numbers lists $147,000,000 as both its worldwide and international total, with a per-territory table. China is the largest market it shows at $77,220,000 (report date April 4, 2026), followed by Hong Kong at $6,047,317, South Korea at $3,275,458 and Spain at $1,983,152. A further $57,409,077 is labelled Rest of World, and the page does not break it down.
What did China add?
Dentsu reported that within about a month of its May 28 opening (The Numbers gives the China release as May 27, 2015), the film had earned about 529.88 million yuan in China ($77.5 million in the article's conversion). The Numbers' later China figure of $77.22 million is in line with that.
What about Stand by Me Doraemon 2?
Box Office Mojo lists the 2020 sequel at $65,201,374 worldwide, including $25,701,465 in Japan (opened November 20, 2020) and $36,420,000 in China (opened May 28, 2021).
The Numbers shows a different snapshot, $66,627,864 worldwide with a Japan figure of $20,796,110 reported January 4, 2021. That Japan number is an early report from a run still in progress, so we use Box Office Mojo's higher figure for Japan.
Where public evidence stops: We did not find a final yen total for either film from Toho or the Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan, and no official worldwide total. The first film's $147 million is a Numbers estimate listed as international, and other sites publish different totals. Treat all worldwide figures as approximate.
What do these figures not show?
These are ticket-sales figures for theatrical runs only. They do not show what Toho, Shin-Ei Animation or the production committee earned, and they exclude home video, streaming and merchandise.
