Inuyasha manga sales: the 50 million-copy total from 2020
The newest sourced total is six years old, which matters when readers quote it as current.
Published: 2026-10-13. Updated: 2026-10-13.
Short answer: A September 15, 2020 press release from Shogakukan Production describes Rumiko Takahashi's Inuyasha as having cumulative circulation of over 50 million copies. The manga has 56 volumes and ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from November 13, 1996 to June 18, 2008. We found no newer publisher figure.
The sourced total and its date
A Shogakukan Production release dated September 15, 2020, announcing an Inuyasha-themed T Card, calls the work one with cumulative circulation of over 50 million copies. The phrase is in Japanese 'rui-kei hakko busu', meaning cumulative copies issued.
That is a circulation total, not retail sales and not an annual figure. It is also a snapshot: nothing in the release says what the number is today, and we do not extrapolate.
Do not read the 2020 number as 2026: The figure was current in September 2020. Six years of reprints and digital sales may have moved it, but we have no source that says how much.
Series run
Anime News Network's encyclopedia lists the manga at 56 tankoubon volumes, serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1996-11-13 to 2008-06-18.
Do not confuse it with the author's total
Catalogue-wide totals quoted for Rumiko Takahashi are not Inuyasha figures.
We do not use them here, and we advise against citing them as Inuyasha sales.
Where public evidence stops
We found no Shogakukan statement after 2020, no volume-by-volume circulation, no Japan versus overseas split, and no Oricon annual ranking for the original run that we could open.
Where public evidence stops: One dated publisher-side figure, 50 million-plus in September 2020, is the whole sourced record for the franchise's manga total.
