- #1 哪吒之魔童闹海 (donghua): RMB 16.4 billion (≈ US$2.3 billion)
How donghua reaches audiences outside China
Donghua mostly reaches audiences outside China through title-by-title distribution deals with regional partners. GKIDS acquired the North American rights to White Snake in 2019 and The Legend of Hei 2 in 2025, with that release split by territory: Encore Films for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Macau and South Korea, and Facewhite Pictures and Aniplex for Japan. Crunchyroll has licensed donghua titles including Release That Witch for streaming. Chinese platforms such as WeTV and iQIYI International also distribute overseas directly.
What we track, and how
This page reads Maoyan Pro’s global animated box-office ranking, the one Maoyan chart served as plain HTML. The RMB figure is as reported; an approximate US dollar equivalent, converted at about 7.2 yuan to the US dollar, is shown for reference only. Rows are classified donghua or anime; unclassified or zero-gross rows do not appear. Figures are cumulative WORLDWIDE gross, not China-only: most donghua leads still draw mostly from China, while imported anime draws mostly from outside China. Maoyan’s current-year, China-domestic-only board is a named gap this page does not yet track.
